PRESS RELEASE
75th art auctionOne of the most extensive offers of all times is presented by im Kinsky at its auction on the 13th & 14th of October 2009: Almost 1.200 paintings by old masters, paintings from the 19th century, oeuvres of classic modernism and contemporary art as well as antiques sum up to an estimated value between almost 5 and 8 Million Euros.
The extraordinary great size is own to the legacy of an art dealer, here again an extraordinary high sales quote is strived by extremely low starting prices. The auction sale of D & S Antiques in May has shown that, under these preconditions, the success is almost a forgone conclusion – even during the “crisis”.
From the old masters, im Kinsky offers an antiquated main oeuvre by Martin Johann Schmidt: “Das Familienbildnis” (€150.000 – 250.000) is showing Kremser Schmidt among his family sitting at an easel. The painting belonged to Oskar Bondy up to 1939, was expropriated by the Nazis and was assigned to the Kremser Museum, was restored to Elisabeth Bondy in 1947 and was then sold to a large Austrian aristocratic family.
After a radical price correction also a West Austrian collection with oeuvres by van Dyck, Savery, Cornelius Schut and Daniel Seghers or Jan Brueghel the Younger could be successfully taken up.
The 19th century applies all the notables: Ranging from Biedermeier paintings, including Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller (Betendes Mädchen, € 100.000 – 200.000) and Friedrich Gauermann (Hirsche, € 15.000 – 30.000) to impressionist atmospheric paintings, including Olga Wisinger-Florian (Blumenfenster, € 35.000 – 70.000), Marie Egner (Dotterblumen, € 30.000 – 60.000), Tina Blau (Blick auf Rom, € 10.000 – 18.000) as well as three paintings by Anton Romako, including a portrait of the baron of Rokitansky (€ 35.000 – 70.000).
The classic modernism shone with a study for the portrait of Frederike Marie Beer (€ 60.000 – 100.000) from the year 1918. Frederike Maria Beer was the second eldest daughter of three daughters of the owner of the Viennese “Kaiserbar”. Through her friendship with the painter Hans Böhler she got in contact with Josef Hoffmann and the Wiener Werkstätte, as well as with Egon Schiele and later also with Gustav Klimt. In 1914 Schiele made a portrait of her wearing a black, white and green WW-dress striped with jags. An extraordinary collection of tempera drawings by Hubert Ploberger, made between 1943 and 1945, are not only drawings of incredible artistic quality, but also relics of the historic events of the time.
In the case of contemporary art one may be in suspense about the interest for Arnulf Rainer’s “Vollmond” (€ 80.000 – 150.000). The oil painting, made in 1953/54, was exhibited in the Guggenheim Museum in New York when for the first time a presentation was dedicated to a living European artist. International attention was also paid to a burnt violin by Arman, 1969 (€ 80.000 – 150.000) and Andy Warhol’s “Perrier”, 1983 (€ 50.000 – 100.000).
650 (!) antiques, mainly from the legacy of an art dealer, among them French and Austrian baroque furniture, numerous pieces of furniture with inlayed tin from Schloss Traunsee, sculptures from which a gothic Madonna (€ 15.000) stands out and a Nuremberg altar group (€ 20.000), porcelain from the 18th and 19th century, for instance a Téte-à-Tétes from before 1784 (€ 10.000) and glass objects, ranging from bottles from the alpine region from the 18th century (€ 500) to Russian paperweights (€ 10.000 – 20.000), allow to expect exciting auctions.
At the vernissage on the evening of the 7th of October Mag. Michael Grünwald is talking about Kremser Schmidt. The exhibition is opened from the 8th of October (Mon. – Fri. 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sun. 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.).
The auction starts on the 13th of October at 3 p.m. (old masters), 4 p.m. (paintings 19th century and classic modernism) and at 6 p.m. (contemporary art) or on the 14th of October (antiques) already at 2 p.m.
