67th Art Auction
Schiele and Klimt in our "Collections" auction

On 26 February 2008 im Kinsky starts a new season of auctions with an auction that is going to be a bit different: starting prices are quoted instead of estimated prices, meaning that bidding starts at an attractively low level. And if that is not motivation enough, then instead of bidding upwards we will be bidding downwards if the starting price is not called.

The centrepiece of around 450 art objects from several collections is the estate of Architekten Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Kurt Schlauss. Schlauss built schools, houses, hotels, offices, government buildings and students' homes. He became famous through the construction of the Viennese underground railway system, of course, during which he insisted that visual artists should be involved at the planning stage. But there are plenty of other projects that carry his signature, such as several bridges over the Danube and the buildings for the 1st International Garden Festival in the Danube Park, as everybody who has lived in Vienna will know.

An oil painting and two drawings by Schiele plus several drawings by Klimt from his collection are up for sale. Bidding for Egon Schiele's "Dorf am Fluss I" (Kallir 120) starts at € 50,000 while "Liebenden" (Kallir 355) starts at € 20,000 and "Mädchen, sich Schuhe bindend" (Kallir 301) from € 15,000.
Gustav Klimt is also represented by seven drawings with starting prices between € 5,000 and €15,000, including studies for the "Dancer" in the "Expectation" panel of the Stoclet frieze, for the girl in the "Hetärengespräche des Lukian", and for the "Virgin" and "The lovers" in the "Fulfilment" section of the Stoclet frieze.

A great deal of interest is also expected in a "Blumenstrauß in grünem Krug" by Anton Faistauer, expected to fetch around € 50,000. Herbert Boeckl is represented in this auction by a "Rotes Haus bei Maria Saal", for which bidding starts at € 35,000, and also the "Stillleben mit Früchten" attributed to Anton Kolig is bound to change hands at a price exceeding the € 25,000 being asked.

The mixed technique "In der Bar" by George Grosz will start at € 15,000 and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner's charcoal observations of a "Morgentoilette" are to be had from € 8,000 upwards.

The 450 art objects with starting prices totalling around one million euros - featuring Baroque and Biedermeier furniture, sculptures, glass and porcelain as well as Jugendstil objects and "portfolios" of numerous pictures and small paintings - will ensure an exciting start to the new season at im Kinsky in Vienna.
